Sunshine-to-Petrol Project Seeks Fuel From Thin Air 2007-12-13
ScienceDaily (Dec. 10, 2007) ¡ª Using concentrated solar energy to reverse combustion, a research team from Sandia National Laboratories is building a prototype device intended to chemically ''reenergize'' carbon dioxide into carbon monoxide using concentrated solar power. The carbon monoxide could then be used to make hydrogen or serve as a building block to synthesize a liquid combustible fuel, such as methanol or even gasoline, diesel and jet fuel.
DOE to Invest More than $5 Million for Concentrating Solar Power 2007-12-5
Additional $7.2 Million Available to Help National Labs Commercialize Proven Technologies
Leading China Closer To Carbon Capture And Storage 2007-11-23
ScienceDaily (Nov. 21, 2007) ¡ª China's carbon dioxide emissions from using coal are set to double by 2030, the scale of which is significant in the context of mitigating global climate change. In view of the essential role of coal in China's energy system, it is vital to minimise emissions where coal is used.
DOE to Invest More than $21 Million for Next Generation Solar Energy Projects 2007-11-12
WASHINGTON, DC - U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Secretary Samuel W. Bodman today announced that the Department will invest $21.7 million in next generation photovoltaic (PV) technology to help accelerate the widespread use of advanced solar power. The 25 projects that DOE selected as part of this Funding Opportunity Announcement, Next Generation Photovoltaic Devices & Processes, are an integral part of the President's Solar America Initiative, which aims to make solar energy cost-competitive with conventional sources of electricity by 2015.
Australian town to run on solar power in 2 years 2007-11-7
A sun-drenched town in Australia's north hopes to use only solar power in two years after being chosen as the site for a solar thermal power station.
New technology improves the reliability of wind turbines 2007-11-1
The world's first commercial Brushless Doubly-Fed Generator (BDFG) is to be installed on a 20kW turbine at or close to the University of Cambridge Engineering Department's Electrical Engineering Division Building on the West Cambridge site by early 2008. This will help the University meet its obligations under new legislation, which requires a new building to obtain ten percent of its electricity from renewable sources.
Spain Building Solar-Energy Power Plants Rapidly 2007-10-15
MADRID ¡ª Photovoltaic solar power plants are springing up throughout Spain, capitalizing on special tariffs for renewable energies and exceeding the government's expectations.
